Performance of Hadron Calorimeter with and without HO
نویسندگان
چکیده
A study of the CMS hadron calorimeter is presented using simulated events with single particles and jets. The impact of the outer hadron calorimeter has been looked into from the point of view of linearity, energy resolution and leakage of energy. The study shows a net improvement in missing pT measurements at LHC energies due to the addition of the outer hadron calorimeter. 1) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai

Eeect of the Tile Calorimeter Thickness in the Atlas Barrel Calorimeter Performance
We report on the study of the eeect of the Tile calorimeter thickness in the ATLAS Barrel calorimeter performance. The reduction of the Tile Calorimeter depth by 20 cm would have severe consequences on the hadron calorimeter performance and would increase the punchtrough probability in the muon chambers placed behind the calorimeter. Cost savings are also analysed.
متن کاملJet reconstruction and performance using particle flow with the ATLAS Detector
This paper describes the implementation and performance of a particle flow algorithm applied to 20.2 fb−1 of ATLAS data from 8 TeV proton–proton collisions in Run 1 of the LHC. The algorithm removes calorimeter energy deposits due to charged hadrons from consideration during jet reconstruction, instead using measurements of their momenta from the inner tracker. This improves the accuracy of the...
متن کاملEffect on a Hadron Shower Leakage on the Energy Response and Resolution of Hadron TILE Calorimeter
The hadronic shower longitudinal and lateral leakages and its effect on the pion response and energy resolution of ATLAS ironscintillator barrel hadron prototype calorimeter with longitudinal tile configuration with a thickness of 9.4 nuclear interaction lengths have been investigated. The results are based on 100 GeV pion beam data at incidence angle Θ = 10 at impact point Z in the range from ...
متن کاملHadronic Shower Development in Tile Iron-scintillator Calorimetry
The lateral and longitudinal profiles of hadronic showers detected by a prototype of the ATLAS Iron-Scintillator Tile Hadron Calorimeter have been investigated. This calorimeter uses a unique longitudinal configuration of scintillator tiles. Using a fine-grained pion beam scan at 100 GeV, a detailed picture of transverse shower behavior is obtained. The underlying radial energy densities for fo...
متن کاملPerformance of Silicon Photomultiplers with the CMS HCAL Front-End Electronics
We have measured the performance of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) together with the front-end electronics developed for the Compact Muon Solenoid hadron calorimeter. We find a clean separation of the single PE peak above pedestal noise fluctuations, providing a signal to noise of about 8. The SIPMs may be useful in the near term for readout of the outer (HO) scintillators to significantly en...
